That Moment When Life Doesn’t Turn Out as You Expected
And You’re Left Wondering What Comes Next
Your career took an unexpected turn. Your relationship reached across roads.
Your sense of security took a dip. Suddenly, life is different from what you imagined.
Beneath the silence sits a swirl of shame, sadness, and anger.
The voice that whispers, “I should have it all figured out by now.”
What if this isn’t the end of your story — but the beginning of who you’re meant to be?
Before every breakthrough lies the Void — the fertile emptiness before renewal,
where you’re quietly becoming someone new.

Hi, I’m Adeline Ng — and I Know What It’s Like to Be Stuck in the Pause.

A few years ago, at 45, my life suddenly hit pause.
After a 25-year global corporate career, I stepped off the fast track to become a stay-at-home mom. Overnight, the emails and calls stopped.
At first, I welcomed the slower pace. But when friends asked, “So what are you doing now?”, the pause grew longer and more awkward.
I started avoiding people — and even social media. I felt lost, stuck, and ashamed. How did a Harvard MBA and top law school graduate lose her way so completely? This wasn’t how my life was meant to turn out.
As I searched for my next direction, I met many others feeling the same — mid-career professionals whose lives were on pause after changes in career, relationships, family, health, or relocation. That’s when I realized: the hardest part of change isn’t the change itself — it’s the space in between. The confusing “Void” before the breakthrough.
I started wondering...
Transitions make up half our lives — yet why are few of us are ever taught how to navigate them?
That insight led me to create Life in Pause — a series of workshops built on 25 years of corporate transformation experience and my work as co-founder of the world’s #1 trauma therapy platform. By merging business change frameworks with post-traumatic growth science, I developed the SpaceBar Method™— a holistic set of skills for mastering Life’s Transitions.

Today, I help professionals rediscover clarity, confidence, and calling —
reframing “Life On Pause” to “Life in Pause”.
Because Pause isn’t a penalty.
It’s preparation for who you’re becoming.

INTRODUCING
SpaceBar Method™

The core of Life in Pause is the SpaceBar Method™
- a simple, science-backed system built from
25 years of corporate change leadership and
trauma-informed transformation work.
This holistic toolkit of Transition skills spans from inner work on self-discovery, to outer
exercises building networks and support systems. Together, SpaceBar helps you master
Transitions — one “key” at a time.

Self-Understanding
Before you can move forward, you must first meet yourself again.Clarity begins with understanding who you are today— not who you used to be. Rediscover your values, strengths, and what truly matters now.

Permission to Feel
Transitions bring up uncomfortable emotions: sadness, fear, anger, guilt, even shame.Allow yourself to feel them— without judgment. Discomfort isn’t weakness; it’s the clearest signal that you’re growing into the new you.

Accept Loss
Every transition begins with an ending.
Instead of resisting change — especially the kind you didn’t choose — learn to make peace with what’s gone. Acceptance, approached with grace and gratitude, clears the way for renewal.

Clear Space
Only when you clear space can what’s next take shape. Let go of what no longer serves you — clutter, commitments, draining relationships, outdated beliefs — to make
room for what’s waiting to enter.

Experiment
The Void is fertile ground for discovery, free from the weight of “should.” Borrowing from Agile thinking, run small, low-risk experiments that invite curiosity and open new paths you might never have imagined.

BAND of Supporters
Transitions often loosen old ties and invite new ones. Build your BAND — the people who lift, challenge, and believe in your emerging self. Identify the four kinds of supporters you need, and start gathering your circle.

Ad-Hoc Structures
During transitions, the old systems have fallen away, and the new ones aren’t yet formed.
Like scaffolding around a house under renovation, temporary routines and rituals provide stability while you rebuild from within.

Reframe & Retell
It’s not what happened that shapes you — it’s the meaning you give it. Learn how to reframe your story from loss to learning, from powerless to purposeful — and keep retelling it until it becomes your truth.
